Review of the film "Cruella" (2021)

Review of the film “Cruella”: unexpectedly positive impression, comparison with “The Devil Wears Prada”, the script, costumes and acting were noted.

“Don’t make an idol for yourself” review of the film Cruella (Cruella) 2021

I specifically started watching the movie Cruella to say

a) the script is crap

b) a pathetic parody of antagonists and a parasite on nostalgia

c) absolutely no innovations

d) bending the knee to minorities

and in general FU, this is not a movie!

Well, naturally, after 5 minutes of watching, I realized that something had not gone according to plan.

WHERE? Where to puke? Where is there to grumble?

Why did the plot do THIS? 😟 Why cute characters?

Where are the gays and why is the main character white?

And what began to accelerate further, very quickly broke the patterns of my expectations, but at the same time remained within the ideological outline.

Remember Cruella De Vil's two henchmen? I went nuts 🤯

Let me allow myself a small but very important digression.

I have one very favorite movie called

The Devil Wears Prada (The Devil Wears Prada) 2006

Stylistically, you can dig into it, but ideologically it’s beautiful.

And I waited for a very long time, and wondered if anyone would be able to push at least a similar idea even further... at least a little bit 😦

But it was such a crazy thought that I immediately rejected it.

It is simply impossible to develop further.

And only now I realized what is possible.

I can safely call “The Devil Wears Prada 2”

Only here the script was apparently written by Christopher Nolan, otherwise I cannot explain why there are so many inversions and plot reflections here.

Either she is the last bitch, then you feel sorry and compassionate.

And for some reason I want the film to finally end right here, right at this second!

No further needed. She's already angry enough. That's it, STOP. Spoil it.

Then she kidnaps Dalmatians and wants to make a dress out of them... that's it. This person can no longer be kind. ENOUGH.

But no... the whole film is not just a revelation of a character we know, it is a new story based on a well-known image.

Ultimately:

The struggle between good and evil develops into a struggle between two evils and the victory of good (or not), I am confused. And that post-credits scene... ugh. Goosebumps.

If we compare, then perhaps

Cruella is The Great Gatsby, mixed with The Devil Wears Prada in one tube and topped off with a really good visual style.

There really is a sense of comedy and pretense with these dogs, whistles and so on... as if there is a little more Malificent in the film.

God, there are so many beautiful costumes out there... WHERE DID THEY GET THEM FROM?

At some point you catch yourself looking not at the actors, but at what they are wearing.

At the same time, the actors themselves are simply incredible gold 😍

Crazy movie.

The troubles with the head are shown at the level of the Joker, no worse.

I assure you. It is clear that the authors studied.

Result:

This is wonderful.

This crazy movie was absolutely made

What makes all this possible is an incredibly good and sincerely humorous screenplay credited to Dana Fox and Tony McNamara (who collaborated on the script for Emma Stone's The Favourite), based on a story credited to Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel and Steve Zissis. (And, of course, all this is based on a novel by Dodie Smith, which was first published in 1956 and made into an animated Disney comedy in 1961, later remade and sequel-ized.)

This time they stand on the same level as the scriptwriters
