Review of the film "Little Women"

An emotional review of the 2019 film Little Women, touching on social themes, music and the author's personal experiences.

Little Women

The American Film Institute and Time magazine included him in the list ten best films of 2019.

The film received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Supporting Actress (Florence Pugh) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The film won in only one category - “Best Costumes”».

Honestly, if I were in the place of the commission, I would have torn my throat, but I did everything possible to ensure that the prize for “Best Adapted Screenplay” went to this picture. [Sorry, Jojo Rabbit...]

I am writing this review immediately after watching it and emotions overwhelm me.

On the one hand, I see broad strokes of current social problems, without which it’s apparently impossible to release films in 2020.

On the other hand... in the 152 years since the publication of the original novel, social problems have not changed much.

Poor family. The father went to the civil war and left the little girls with their mother. Next door to them is the house of a very wealthy gentleman who lives with his grandson (a young rake, the same age as the girls).

It is clear that this is a typical romantic story, but at the same time:

one of the girls is an artist

the other writes novels

the third dreamed of becoming a great actress

Well, the youngest one simply plays music masterfully.

Almost the entire film is accompanied by incredible compositions, which are narratively assigned to the heroine with a not very rosy fate.

In terms of issues, the film speaks out about the difficult fate of girls, but it does so both straightforwardly and through a variety of prisms (in the manner of “Green Book”).

Does a girl really always need to think only about how to get married?

Is it worth writing works of art on the table and what is a real creative genius?

And of course...

And with all this... a love story that is in no way tarnished or vulgarized (how few such stories are in our time).

Imagine that they are riding over your tear glands on a bicycle with spikes... Then they turn around and ride over it a couple more times.

These are the emotions the film evoked in me.

For myself, I put it on the shelf of the most sincere and sincere paintings. This shelf is disturbed so rarely that before this film, a huge layer of dust had accumulated there and only one tape that could evoke similar emotions in me.

And of course, there is an open ending that everyone can write on their own... for the sake of financial gain and popularity.
